Judith McConville joins a select group in
earning the Certificate of Completion from
the American Society for Indexing for
Training in Indexing. Assessment criteria
for the course states: "Candidates must
achieve a pass in each of the three formal
examinations in order to be awarded the
Certificate of Completion. Successful
candidates are not classified into levels of
achievement: there are no "distinctions"
and no grades. The standard required to
pass the Examinations is high: this is
deliberate and necessary. The aim is to
enable successful candidates to enter the
commercial world and to practice
competently. The examinations are not
competitive, but as a measure of
professional and vocational proficiency it
is not possible to scrape through with low
marks."
